Exact charges depend upon you and the nature of your work and are open to negotiation.

I am happy to negotiate a fixed price for a piece of work, or give you an estimate based on an hourly rate.

The first thing to do is to contact me so that we can discuss your needs and work out a package that suits you. If you are unsure as to which service you require, I can provide guidance.

Proofreading

If your writing is already polished, has been through several proofs and simply needs a final check for occasional errors, this is the service for you.

I will check the spelling, grammar and punctuation, together with the consistency of page numbers, page headings, table of contents and typeface.

In non-fiction, I will ensure that illustrations, captions and labels correspond with each other and with the text.

Copy editing

In addition to the above, I will check the consistency of terminology. I will flag any sentences that are unclear in meaning and, if possible, make suggested revisions to those sentences. I will research and verify the spellings of real names and places as far as is possible. I will point out any doubtful facts.

In fiction, I will check that the characters' names and descriptions remain constant, and I will draw your attention to any plot holes.

Proof editing

This service is a 'one-stop shop' for those who wish to avoid the two-stage process of separate copy editing and proofreading. This is more suitable for projects such as websites and apps but can also be used for shorter pieces of fiction and non-fiction.

Proofreading & copy editing for non-native English writers & for translations

All of the above corrections will be made but there is likely to be far heavier editing needed and this will take me more time.
